Having already taken a look Inside Mobile Penryn, it is now time to take a closer look at the Penryn system used for our tests, Zepto Znote 3415W. Always one to launch with the remaining elements as quickly as possible, Zepto offered Penryn CPU in its notebook line-up for a while now, all at competitive prices and generally with the abundant supply on the configurability . So, how does this system compared to other offers 15.4 inches?
As is typical of Zepto, Znote 3415W is described as functional. On the outside there is a simple two-tone black and shiny dark gray, while the rest of the system is largely shrouded in the non-descript black plastic mat. Weighing 2.8 kilograms, it is relatively light for its size and the actual size, 355 x 257 x 35.2mm (WxDxH), enough to make a nice form factor as its free and unnecessary bulk feels a little thinner and svelte you might imagine. Nevertheless, this is not an icon of style and if it is well established, if you look for something a little more character you should look elsewhere.
However, it lacks that superficially looks, it compensates for inner beauty. As has been mentioned, it uses a 45nm CPU Penryn, a T9300 which runs at 2.5 GHz with 800MHz Front Side Bus and 6 MB L2 cache. This initiative is supported by 2GBs worth 677MHz DDR2 RAM, with a fast 7200rpm SATA 160GB HDD providing storage. All combined it makes the Znote 3415W a very fast notebook, one of the fastest we tested.
In addition to these components, you get a GT 512 MB nVidia 8600M, while displaying a 15.4in fairly standard 1280 x 800 native resolution and a glossy “high contrast” finish. Network connectivity is too high, with standard Gigabit Ethernet and wireless Intel AGN 4965, but for a little less you might want Zepto its own wireless adapter N place. Elsewhere on the system, you can find a camera of 2.0 megapixels set in the rear of the display, and a fingerprint reader below the cursor.
Surprisingly, however, this was not even the best Zepto offers at the moment. Since we obtained in this system of review Zepto revised its price, so you can now get a similar system with a hard drive SATA 200 GB 7200 and 4 GB of RAM 677MHz DDR2 for around £ 850 inc. VAT, which with Vista Home Premium 64 bit is included absolute steal. This underscores the persistence of one of the highlights of Zepto machines, which offer great performance and flexibility for those who want to specify every aspect of their notebook.
