The Acer laptop people are nuts about cars. First, they seared our retinas with their gaudy Ferrari laptops and now they are about to unleash the Gemstone series - which were co-designed by BMW. Yes, the car.
Rather than stick a BMW badge on the lid, Acer has conducted seven months of market research to discover what constitutes a sexy laptop, then left the outcome in the hands of more than 100 designers and engineers at BMW Designworks .
The laptops are stunning, but not in the right direction. We got our hands on the “King of Entertainment” model Aspire 5920 and we are really not the sense of design.
The glossy black cover is correct, but each manufacturer of portable, his mother and his dog has one - to Nil points. They also get zero accessories for the grandfather-gray pleasantly keyboard. It seems white photos, but we believe when we say is that the aging John Major after a battle autoerotic asphyxiation with Madame Whiplash. Our lawyers we would like to point out that this is a purely hypothetical scenario.
The next design faux pas is the USB port arrangement. There are three ports on the left side, which is fine, but we believe the only port on the right, it was jammed by a petrol-head who knows nothing about laptops. The port is located approximately 1 mm below the DVD-ROM, so that any standard-size USB device physically prevents the drive bay from opening. The USB logo is even printed in the wrong place - above the DVD player.
There are a few touches as we are.
The camera doubles as a kind of doorknob car to open the sexy 15.4-inch screen. Plus the shortcut buttons on both sides of the keyboard are just like those on either side of a BMW car stereo. Ironically, there is even a button that does absolutely nothing - like the dummy switches on cars that have not obtained all the options available upon request. We have no idea why they included this point - it makes you wonder whether there is something missing.
We can not complain with the specifications. The Aspire 5920 east of Santa Rosa’d up to the eyeballs and packs a 2GHz Intel T7300 processor, 2 GB of 667 MHz (800 MHz unfortunately) RAM and an Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT graphics card for games. There is even a Dolby-certified speaker system with a subwoofer below. It does not seem as good as in embedded systems, of course, but it is impressive nonetheless. We can not discuss prices, either - a measly S $ 2,698 (U.S. $ 1775) goes a long way to go for the design car crash.
We have a review of the Aspire 5920 sooner than you can say sprochtung durch technik, or what they say in Germany.
