Tuesday saw LG Display and Universal Display lifting the veils of an update of a prototype flexible AMOLED (Active Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode) display at the SID Conference 2008. The prototype features bright colors with a better saturation and range, with a face-an electrical connection that allows greater flexibility in the four-inch display. LG Universal Display and boast display that the display they have developed is the most flexible enhanced OLED display product so far.
The two companies have joined their efforts to develop this avant-garde four-inch diagonal QVGA colour screen full AMOLED prototype. With LG screen amorphous-silicon backplane technology with Universal frontplane OLED display technology, 320 x 240 resolution prototype packages a plethora of improvements. It includes LGD high-efficiency PHOLED universal and transparent compound cathode TOLED technologies. Progress has been made in the field of color reproduction since the prototype was demonstrated at SID 2007.
A prototype of the growth was supported by the U.S. Department of Defense, military applications of technology, including the wrist mounted PDA and roll-out shows in small communication devices are planned. Non-military applications such as digital newspapers, Head-Up Displays, automotive dashboards and office partitions, windows or walls that dual displays that can be examined with interest by others.
“Control of collaborative efforts by CDU and LGD gave rise to another big step forward in AMOLED flexible,” noted In Jae Chung, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of LG Display. “Great teamwork between the two companies has resulted in consistent quality upgrade flexibility AMOLED in a short period and we expect more achievements in the future to realize its full potential in applications real world. ”
“LG Display has been an excellent partner in promoting flexible AMOLEDs to commercial viability, and our success has been driven by strong collaboration teamwork,” argued Steven V. Abramson, President and CEO of Universal Display . “In a little over a year, our collaboration with LGD has yielded significant gains in the design and functionality of flexible OLED screens. While we continue to work with LGD, we anticipate that our joint development will drive further progress in OLED flexible technologies for military and commercial applications. ”
Innovation flexible OLED displays could reach the market in the coming years, analysts expect.
