Olympus has announced its new E-420 digital SLR who claims to be the smallest camera in the world, measuring 5.1 inches by 3.6 inches by 2.1 inches (excluding projections), and a weight of only 13.4 oz. This makes the Olympus E-420 by 20 to 40 percent lighter than the competition DSLRs. Olympus has a thin, compact lens to go with the E-420 in the ultra-compact digital Zuiko 25mm f2.8 specific objective. This is a thickness of 0.9 inches, which offers a fixed lens equivalent 50mm viewing angle. The E-420 will also be available as a kit with a compact, Zuiko Digital 28-84mm equivalent (ED 14-42mm Four Thirds) f3.5-f5.6 lens.
This slight 10-megapixel digital SLR E-420 has a 2.7-inch LCD HyperCrystal II, autofocus on the screen, the face detection, the shadow of technical adjustment, perfect shot preview, and a “Live View “LCD experience.
“The Live View LCD allows photographers to take the camera away from their faces and at angles that they simply can not go through the optical viewfinder alone.”
The Olympus E-420 Digital SLR will be available in May 2008. The package includes the E-420 Body, USB cable, video cable, Li-Ion Battery Pack (BLS-1), Li-Ion Battery Charger (BCS-1), Shoulder Strap, OLYMPUS Master Software 2 CD-ROM, manuals and warranty card.
