Samsung has continued to strengthen its range of laptops, the diminutive Q45 up a selection of 15.4 inches desktop replacements. One of the latest entrants in the line-up is the X22 (NP-X22T000/SUK), a model with a 14.1-inch screen, which is mainly aimed at business users.
If you did not know what part of the marketing of X22 was in sight, just a glance puts you right, as his austere grey finish graphite (which has a strange, slightly rough feel to it) gives the game far. Somewhere design is not beyond us, but there is a surprise when you open the lid, you are greeted by a brushed aluminium finish which helps to increase the sense of really good notebook.
Powering the X22 we reviewed was one of Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 processor, running at 2 GHz with 2 MB L2 cache and a 800 MHz FSB, the X22 will make light work of daily life office applications. Saving the Intel PM965 CPU / chipset combination ICH8M and 1 GB of PC2-5300 DDR2 memory, clocked at 667MHz, it is also for the pre-installed Windows XP Pro, but the laptop supports up to 4 GB of memory if you want to go further
Yes, this version of X22 comes with the good old Windows XP installed (you can hear the cheering from here), but if you need Vista, the other X22 versions come with him.
The graphics are powered by an ATI Mobility Radeon HD2400 chipset with 128 MB of dedicated memory, so you will not be made much matches to be played on the X22, but there are no surprises.
Results of the HD2400 powers a 14.1-inch screen that has a couple of niggles about it. First, the resolution disappointing 1280 by 800 pixels, and then gloss coating, which does indeed reflect light. This is not what you want in an office environment, and it’s a shame, because, apart from this, the screen is fairly good with decent color definition and clarity. A camera is 1.3 megapixels installed in the rear top of the screen.
Built in the left side of the chassis are stacked two USB ports, a LAN port, a VGA port and an HDMI port, all useful to a business notebook. There is also a PC card slot which is a 5-in-1 card reader. The right side is dominated by the optical drive, but there is room for another USB port, two audio ports and modem socket. In addition to wired Ethernet and modem you also 802.11a/b/g/Draft-N wireless networking and Bluetooth.
For storage there is a 160GB, 5400rpm hard drive and a DVD burner 8x LightScribe to allow you to back-up data quickly and effortlessly.
The keyboard is a good example of the breed, with keys that are pleasant and responsive with little or no bending on the sole. The ensemble is pleasant to use, as is the keyboard which is smooth and supple, without being too sensitive.
Samsung compromise battery against portability with the X22. It weighs a little more than 2.2 kg, which is quite impressive for a laptop of this size, but to get down to weight that designers have used a fairly lean four-cell, 2600mAh battery.
This was not conducive to the X22 when it’s off food, managing just in the shade under two and a half hours during a test. It could make three hours under real conditions with all the parameters for saving energy on, but it’s a challenge.
