Sharp X-Series TV have already impressed by their size 1.35in thick, but apparently this is not the only string to their bow. Having teamed with the company Amimon, it uses a wireless technology to high-definition interface (WHDI) to distribute content on TV through a base station.
Sharp is not the first manufacturer to boast this kind of function of its televisions, Hitachi Wooo series also uses an ultra-broadband (UBW) input area to make possible its 1.4in thick. Sharp uses a property more solution because, unlike UWB, WHDI is not an open standard.
Amimon of WHDI offers 3Gbps a stream using a radio signal 5 GHz, which the company claims has a range of 30m and less than a millisecond latency, even through walls. This is a significant reduction on 10.2Gbps available on an HDMI 1.3, but is apparently enough to carry a 1080p signal.
Sharp-X series sets not ship by default with this wireless module, which will be sold separately. Hopefully, the price is not so high as to postpone for those seeking a solution to their tangle of cables.
